Seven Things to Note to Enjoy Your Massage (Everytime)

Seven Things to Note to Enjoy Your Massage (Everytime)

Can you still remember the time when you went to a spa and felt so relaxed, you felt you are made of butter? Can you also remember a time when you felt stressed instead of being relaxed?

Whether you are new to massage or an experienced spa-goer, there are important things to note that you can do get the most from your massage or any other spa treatments for that matter.

  • Arrive well in advance of your appointment–at least fifteen minutes at a day spa, or even longer for a resort spa. It will give you time to check in and relax before your spa treatment. You don't want to be huffing and puffing or feel hurried to undress to finally get your treatment. You also need to value the time of the attendants that were assigned to assist you.
  • Being early at the spa facility also gives you time to try other amenities such as the sauna, steam bath, or hot tub. Using these facilities will warm your muscles and make it easier for the therapist to achieve results.
  • Good communication is important. Communicate your preference if you have any. During the massage session, report any discomfort, whether it is from the massage or anything else -- room temperature, music volume, lighting, etc. As always, do not be afraid to discuss if you have any concerns and/or apprehensions so you will be able to enjoy your spa experience even more.
  • Be receptive and open to the experience and trust in the professionalism of the therapist. Always!
  • Get yourself into a more relaxed mood by breathing heavily. People often stop breathing when they feel anxious or a sensitive area is massaged. If this is happening, let yourself breathe.
  • Don't eat a heavy meal or drink alcohol before a massage session.
  • If you are dizzy or light-headed after the massage, do not get off the table too fast because you might fall and hurt yourself.
