Booking a Spa Day Can Massively Reduce Your Stress Levels

Booking a Spa Day Can Massively Reduce Your Stress Levels

We love visiting the spa, for rest, relaxation, rejuvenation and ‘me’ time!! But even the most seasoned spa goers like us can struggle with the multiple choices of treatments on offer. Often it results in us taking the ‘safe’ option of a massage or facial or better still the monthly offer!

Why should we visit a spa, does it really do anything?

According to a new ESRI study, funded by the Health and Safety Authority (HAS), the level of job stress has doubled in Ireland in five years.

A new survey from switch.ie shows 95% of people admit they are worried about their finances and over half of those surveyed say their financial concerns are affecting their mental health.

Stress can affect your body, your thoughts, how you feel and even you behaviour. If ignored stress can contribute to many health problems including high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes, to name but a few.

Self care is essential

Many people are turning to alternative solutions to improve their overall health and reduce their stress levels. This is where the spa can be an amazing solution to start you on your journey back to wellness.

Health care in spas – Keep your youthful looks!

Taking good care of your body and mind can help the aging process. ... Facials, skin care and body treatments can help you look and feel young. Improve Blood Circulation and Manage Blood Pressure. Spa treatments such as hydrotherapy, massage and heat therapy can improve blood circulation and regulate blood pressure.

Choosing the right treatments for you

Don’t just take the safe option because you don’t know what else to book, call the spa and ask them what they would recommend based on how you want to feel at the end of the treatment. Do you have dry skin? Maybe add a body scrub before your massage or facial. A hydrotherapy bath is the best way to start a treatment because you get to soften your muscles, open your pores and allow yourself to start the relaxation process before you meet your therapist.

Take enough time for your spa journey

Rushing in for a treatment and rushing out after will not give you the desired results and in a way is a waste of money. In order to get the best results make sure you allow an hour before your treatment and an hour after. You deserve this time, it’s part of your spa day so make sure you avail of everything on offer – it’s there for a reason.

Thermal Area

All spas have some form of pre treatment facility, even if it just a sauna/steam, maybe a pool, hot tub, Jacuzzi, foot baths, experience showers, ice fountains and so much more.  Enjoy the start of your spa journey by taking some time to experience this area, detox your body,  open your pores and soften your muscles.

Post treatment chill time

Once you have finished your treatment, been pulled and pummelled into a tranquil state – before you step foot back into this mad western world, take some chill time. Go enjoy a herbal, tea, some fresh fruit, maybe a juice or smoothie and allow your body to process exactly what just happened.  Allow your mind and body to acknowledge how it feels when you have allowed yourself to fully switch off. Amazing isn’t it?!

Home care

You may visit the spa once, twice or many times a year, but if you don’t carry on self care once you get home then it really has been a wasteful trip to an extent. Mind yourself at home, use some relaxing oils to help you sleep, all spas have muscle relaxing creams, oils and gels that will keep your muscle tension intact. We tend to only detox or exfoliate in spring just before summer season but we should be doing something all year round. Ask your therapist what they would recommend. If you can’t afford all the home care at once, take one or two items to get started and build from there. Most spa products are high potency so you only need a small amount to get amazing results, meaning your products will last a long time.

What other advice can we give you?

The only advice we would give you is to make sure you book your next appointment before you leave! Self care is so important because if we aren’t looking after ourselves no one else will.
